About: This beautiful Okura tea set is made of fine white porcelain trimmed in gold. This set is embossed with designs in gold. Designs in relief are stamped onto the surface of soft ceramic piece by pressing it with a roller. Glaze is then applied to the piece to cover the relief before being put in the kiln. After being fired, gold is applied on the designs and the piece is fired for a third time. As this ornamental technique is extremely delicate and complex, it requires a great deal of skill. Okura Art China believes this technique is an important asset cannot be imitated by other companies. All of them are in perfect used condition. Each piece is marked with OAC OKURA JAPAN stamp on the bottom. I did some research on Okura. Here is some additional information I found: Okura Art China was established in 1919 by Magobei Okura and his son, Kazuchika, to achieve their goal of "creating the finest chinaware" and the company has since strived to produce artistic chinaware. With its "white, hard and smooth" porcelain, Okura has enjoyed a reputation as Japan's best chinaware maker. The company is also a member of Morimura Group, along with other ceramic-related companies such as Noritake, TOTO, NGK and NTK.
